‘Game of Thrones’ actress Carice van Houten, who is seen as Melisandre in the widely popular fantasy series, says the debate whether the show has gone ‘off-book’ or not is irrelevant for most of the cast as they have “never read the books”.

Inspired by novelist George RR Martin’s bestselling series, the HBO series narrates a gripping story of seven kingdoms and royals vying for the Iron throne. It weaves together various emotions – from love, politics, revenge, hatred and value of family – into a bloody tale which has caught the fancy of several people across the globe.

The show comes with bountiful of surprises, and some of the recent changes like character Jon Snow, played by Kit Harington, coming back from the dead, raised questions whether the show makers are swaying off the book.

“For us, it’s no different. We’ve never read the books so each year is always new,” Houten said in a statement.

She also spoke about her big reveal at the end of episode one when the viewers saw the actual Melisandre, stripped of all the glamour. She felt that it was another feather in her cap to play a 250-year-old woman.

The current sixth season of the series is aired on Star World Premiere HD in India.

Talking about the famous resurrection sequence, Houten, who is expecting her first child, said: “It’s funny how we had to secure our emails; double secure our emails! I mean you couldn’t even get any pages anymore, you had to sign for them. You wouldn’t even get a call sheet; there was just so much secrecy.”
