‘Padmavati’ and controversies refuse to part ways as the film continues to make headlines for all the wrong reasons even before its release. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama now faces opposition from the former royal family of Jaipur. Former princess Diya Kumari has stated that the film should not hurt the religious sentiments of anyone and if ‘Padmavati’ portrays distorted historical facts then the movie, full of celebs and cinema stars, should not be allowed to release. Trouble mounted for the film when Shri Rajput Karni Sena and the Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha opposed the release of ‘Padmavati’ as they felt that facts in the movie were twisted. According to them, ‘Padmavati’ should be screened for historians before its theatrical release. All this controversy has adversely affected the film as distributors from Rajasthan are not too keen to buy the project. Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh-starrer ‘Padmavati’ is scheduled to release on December 1.
