Varun Dhawan was embroiled in controversy recently when he joined hands with Karan Johar and Saif Ali Khan on the stage of IIFA Awards 2017. The trio of Varun, Saif and Karan took a dig at Kangana Ranaut’s nepotism take, which she had mentioned some time back on ‘Koffee With Karan 5’. The actor had fans criticising his ‘unfunny’ manner on social media and he decided to publicly apologise for the gig. Varun Dhawan shared on Twitter, “Performing at New York City IIFA was an amazing experience. I am inspired and humbled and sorry if I let anyone down.” Hours later, Varun Dhawan posted yet another tweet, further saying sorry, “I express my apology and regret. I am extremely sorry if I have offended or hurt anyone with that act (on Kangana Ranaut and nepotism remark).” It seems like Varun Dhawan is in no mood to ruffle feathers with anyone in the entertainment industry and maintain a clean image!

For those who joined us late, Karan Johar and Kangana Ranaut’s nepotism controversy made its way to the recently concluded 18th International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA Awards) 2017. As per its plot, Varun Dhawan and Saif Ali Khan joined KJo on the IIFA stage as the hosts. While all of them took a dig at Kangana Ranaut for her earlier nepotism comment, Varun went a step ahead and even said, “‘Bole Chudiyan, Bole Kangana’, a line from Karan Johar’s film ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’. Being such a direct hit to the actress in question, this was not taken lightly by the Twitterati and also by most on various other social media platforms. Citing such a hullaballoo, it seems that better sense prevailed and Varun Dhawan finally came out in the open to apologise publicly, even if saying sorry not directly to Kangana Ranaut.

It will be interesting to see if Varun Dhawan will be spared the wrath of Kangana Ranaut after this public apology on Twitter, or will he come into the eye of the storm if Kangana decides to retaliate against the three, including Karan and Saif.
