Tubelight Box Office: Salman Khan’s Eid release marks lowest opening -

Salman Khan’s big ticket Eid release, ‘Tubelight’ raked in Rs 21.15 crore at the Box Office on the opening day. Being just the first day, the number might seem impressive, especially had it been for another star, but with ‘Tubelight’ and Salman, there were huge expectations. This is Salman Khan’s lowest first day opening in the recent past. ‘Tubelight’ received a downbeat review from several critics, which seems to have affected the Box Office collections for this film. This weekend will be a crucial one for ‘Tubelight’, which will decide if the film is a huge hit or yet another ‘Jai Ho’ in the making.

The good news is that ‘Tubelight’s’ Rs 21.15 crore Box Office collection has given it the first place on the biggest opening list this year till now. ‘Tubelight’ has inched past Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’, which made Rs 20.29 crore collection on its first day of release. However, ‘Raees’ released on 3,400 screens compared to ‘Tubelight’s’ 4,400, and SRK also faced a big clash with Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Kaabil’, while ‘Tubelight’ had a solo release at the ticket windows!

Despite all the buzz about ‘Tubelight’ and Kabir Khan taking on the reins of direction, the film recorded Salman Khan’s lowest opening day collection as far as Eid releases are concerned even after 21.15 crore in its kitty.
