Sonu Nigam kept his date with the media as he shaved his head and made an appearance, fulfilling one of the demands of a Muslim cleric who reacted against his tweets on Azaan. The popular singer had invited Hakim Aalim over to shave his hair off after Muslim leader Syed Sha Atef Ali Al Quaderi, Vice President, West Bengal Minority United Council, has issued an alleged fatwa against Sonu Nigam. Quaderi had offered to pay Rs 10 lakh to the person who would shave off Sonu Nigam’s hair, put a garland of old torn shoes around his neck and make him tour around the country. Reacting to this controversy, Sonu says, “I am a person who has considered Mohd Rafi as his father and whose guru is Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan. I have had had drivers and trainers who are Muslims. It is not my problem if you treat me as an anti-Muslim, it is your problem. It is the issue of the country’s mind-set.” Sonu Nigam goes on to add that he only wanted to make a point about loudspeakers being used for Azaan but was rather misquoted. “Everybody has a right to opinion and my point was misconstrued. My point is that loudspeakers are not a part of religion, be it for a temple, mosque or gurudwara. I see it is as ‘gundagardi’ (hooliganism),” concludes Sonu.
