Sonu Nigam was woken up by the Azaan (Muslim prayer) early in the morning playing out of the loudspeaker near his house, and the popular singer decided to voice his opinion about it on Twitter. “God bless everyone. I’m not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India? And by the way, Mohammed did not have electricity when he made Islam. Why do I have to have this cacophony after Edison? I don’t believe in any temple or gurudwara using electricity to wake up people who don’t follow the religion. Why then? Honest? True? ‘Gundagardi hai, bas’ (this is hooliganism),” shared Sonu Nigam. The Azaan is a call to prayer by the muezzin of a mosque. It happens five times a day, with the first call given early in the morning. Sonu Nigam faced severe backlash from Twitter users, who slammed the singer for expressing his displeasure against the Azaan.
While Sonu Nigam was already facing criticism on the social networking site, hilariously, Bollywood actor Sonu Sood too got dragged into the controversy because of mistaken identity! The musician and the Bollywood actor have the same first name, and it seems like just for the fun of it, several Twitter users joked about mistaken identity. A totally confused Sonu Sood, said, “I am still wondering who said what and to whom and who is asking me to find out what happened where.” This was a repeat case of what happened with Snapdeal and Snapchat. Just yesterday, several users had uninstalled and given a negative rating to shopping giant Snapdeal, whereas actually they were angry against Snapchat as the CEO referred to India as a ‘poor country’. Since both the companies have a similar starting name, several users mistook Snapdeal for Snapchat! While this is just an analogy, Sonu Sood unnecessarily got dragged into the Sonu Nigam and Azaan controversy due to mistaken identity!
