Sonam Kapoor has been about town promoting her upcoming film ‘Neerja’. While the audiences in India are eagerly waiting for the film to hit the screens, buzz is that it may not release in Pakistan at all.

‘Neerja’ is based on the real life incident of the hijacking of the Pan Am Flight 73 at the Karachi airport in 1986, depicting the story of brave-heart flight attendant Neerja Bhanot. Initial reports coming out of the highly placed sources state that India’s neighbour, Pakistan has decided to ban the film for allegedly showing their country in bad light. Apparently, the certificate to import this Ram Madhvani film was revoked by Pakistan’s respective ministry after initial clearance because of which ‘Neerja’ has been banned even before the Censor Board of Pakistan reviews it.

Last year, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ was one of those few films, based on the Indo-Pak theme, which managed to get a green signal by the Pakistan censor board. However, this Salman Khan starrer was approved only after going through several cuts. ‘Haider’, ‘Bangistan’ and ‘Phantom’ too have met with the same fate, of being in the list of banned Indian films in Pakistan, in the recent past. As the official confirmation is still awaited, ‘Neerja’ could be the latest banned film added to this list.
