Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ‘Padmavati’ was embroiled in controversy recently. The fringe element group Shri Rajput Karni Sena protested against an alleged love angle between Rani Padmavati aka queen Padmini (played by Deepika Padukone) and Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh). However Shahid Kapoor, who plays Raja Rawal Ratan Singh in ‘Padmavati’, assures that there is nothing offensive in the historical Bollywood film. “I have read the script of ‘Padmavati’ and there is nothing objectionable in it, everything is very dignified. People should watch the film and then react. I was told that the characters had to be represented correctly as they are respected and loved by the people of Rajasthan. I hope when people watch this period drama, these issues will be resolved,” says Shahid. Teeming with celebs and cinema stars, the team of ‘Padmavati’ will now continue shooting in Mumbai where an elaborate set is being erected to depict the Jaigarh Fort of Jaipur where Bhansali was shooting.
