Salim Khan was recently in the news other than Bollywood, likely for being nominated for Rajya Sabha. The name of this noted Bollywood writer was rumoured to be shortlisted along with several other celebrities like cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, Olympic medallist boxer Mary Kom and Malayalam actor Suresh Gopi among others.

However, it was later reported that Salim Khan had snubbed the offer of going to Rajya Sabha aka Council of States. Salim Khan, who has recently joined social networking site Twitter, decided to clear all the rumours about his reported political inclinations. Salman Khan’s father posted on Twitter, “News ‘Salim Khan snubs BJP by refusing Rajya Sabha’ is wrong. I have never been offered but if offered it is a great honour. But I will have to think because of my age.”

In the past, Khan family is seen to be closely connected with the now Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is also a part of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Back in 2014, Salman Khan flew down to Gujarat to enjoy a game of kite flying with the then BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. Also in April 2014, Salim Khan had launched the Urdu version of Narendra Modi’s official website.

It is not new that Bollywood celebrities turn to politics at a later stage in life. Celebs and cinema world people like Hema Malini and Kirron Kher are active Bollywood personalities of the current government and continue with their acting projects as well. Some of the other noted Bollywood names in politics are Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Vinod Khanna and Paresh Rawal. If Salim Khan does get the offer and decides to join, then he will be one more Bollywood celebrity in the Rajya Sabha.
