Salman Khan was recently announced as the Goodwill Ambassador of Indian contingent at Rio Olympics 2016. Several sportspersons like Yogeshwar Dutt and Milkha Singh criticised the Bollywood actor’s representation at the prestigious sports event such as Olympics. However, despite all the uproar, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) remained firm on its decision to have Salman Khan at the forefront.

While Salman Khan has maintained a stoic silence over the issue, his father Salim Khan took to Twitter to clear their stance, “Milkhaji, it is not Bollywood, it is the Indian film industry, and that too the largest in the world. The same industry which resurrected you from fading away in oblivion,” referring directly to Milkha Singh. Salim Khan further justified Salman Khan’s association with sports, “Salman Khan may not have competed but is an A level swimmer, cyclist and weightlifter. Sportsmen are performing because of sports lovers like us.”

Also when sportsman Virat Kohli, who is well versed with the Hindi film industry aka Bollywood, was asked about the ongoing debate, he choose not to react. “I cannot comment whether it was the right decision or wrong. I can only be accountable for myself. I don’t know the thinking or mind-set behind it. Hence I would now like to comment on it,” said the cricketer.
