Bollywood lost a legendary filmmaker as Basu Chatterjee passed away today due to age related ailments. The 90-year-old filmmaker reportedly died in his sleep on Thursday morning. A handful of family members and friends were present at the last rites of Chatterjee at the Santacruz Crematorium. Amitabh Bachchan penned a memorable note remembering the filmmaker, “Prayers and Condolences on the passing of Basu Chatterjee… a quiet, soft-spoken, gentle human. His films reflected the lives of middle-India. I did ‘Manzil’ with him. A sad loss…in these climes often remembered for ‘Rim Jhim Gire Saawan’.”
The brilliant filmmaker that he was, Basu Chatterjee had delivered superhits like ‘Chhoti Si Baat’, ‘Rajnigandha’, ‘Baaton Baaton Mein’ and ‘Chameli Ki Shaadi’ to name a few. PM Narendra Modi paid a tribute to the filmmaker and shared on Twitter, “Sad to hear of the demise of Shri Basu Chatterjee. His works are brilliant and sensitive. It touched people’s hearts and represented the simple and complex emotions, as well as struggles of people. Condolences to his family and innumerable fans. Om Shanti.”
