Buzz has been that studios like Disney India and Balaji Motions Pictures are backing out of Bollywood projects following huge losses. Ask this to Karan Johar, who owns Dharma Productions, and he thinks it’s business as usual. “We (studios) are absolutely in no grave crisis that is looming large. There is a reason why studios start and shut down. We are all filmmakers trying to tell stories, and have been trying to cut budgets, since the time I could remember. So that problem remains. But the producer, director and the film will always survive,” opines Karan Johar. Ironically, Ekta Kapoor headed Balaji Motion Pictures recently opted out of producing Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor starrer ‘Veerey Di Wedding’. There were also talks of these studios, and also some smaller, lesser known, shutting down due to unrecoverable mounting losses.
