Karan Johar has always made headlines for his firebrand comments and outspoken behaviour. The filmmaker yet again took to this demeanour at the ongoing Jaipur Literature Festival. Speaking about freedom of speech, KJo commented, “Revealing in today’s time can land you in jail. We are in a tough country to speak about our personal life. I feel very sad about this because being a public figure you are expected to helm a certain movement and talk about freedom of expression, which is the biggest joke in the world, I believe. Democracy is the second biggest joke, I think. How are we democratic? Where is the freedom of expression?”

The filmmaker recently got a clean chit in the case of using the National Anthem in his film ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’. Apart from that, Karan Johar was also caught in legal trouble in 2014 for the controversial AIB Roast. “As a filmmaker I feel bound, be it for what I put on celluloid or what I say in print. I feel that there is always some kind of a legal notice awaiting me. I am scared of saying anything wherever I go. I don’t know who will file a case when I get home. I have become like an FIR king now,” concludes Johar.
