Jagga Jasoos to release solo; Haseena to clash with three films

Since ‘Haseena: The Queen of Mumbai’ has postponed its release date to July 28, it will clash with ‘Mubarakan’, ‘Indu Sarkar’ and ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ whereas ‘Jagga Jasoos’ will enjoy a solo release on July 14

The weekend of 14 July 2017 would have been a hot one with ex-lovers Ranbir Kapoor-Katrina Kaif’s ‘Jagga Jasoos’ and Shraddha Kapoor’s ‘Haseena: The Queen of Mumbai’ releasing on the same date. However, the makers of Haseena Parkar’s biopic have decided to postpone the movie to July 28. Interestingly, July 28 is also a crowded weekend. Arjun Kapoor and Anil Kapoor’s ‘Mubarakan’, Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Indu Sarkar’ and Ekta Kapoor presented ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ are releasing on that Friday. This makes ‘Haseena’ the fourth film to release on the same day. So even though the Shraddha Kapoor-starrer would have avoided the clash with Ranbir-Katrina’s ‘Jagga Jasoos’, ‘Haseena’ would have to now slug it out with three other equally strong films.

Interestingly, one of the reasons for changing the release date of ‘Haseena: The Queen of Mumbai’ is that that on June 30, producer-director Suneel Darshan’s son Shiv will debut with ‘Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha’. So to avoid any confusion with Shraddha’s ‘Haseena’, the release has been pushed by two weeks from its initial date. A couple of days ago, Saif Ali Khan too postponed his ‘Chef’ from July 14 to October 6.

Tongues are wagging that there is another technical reason behind postponing ‘Haseena: The Queen of Mumbai’, which is not only to avoid a clash with ‘Jagga Jasoos’. According to a report, distributor Disney has booked most of the screens and theatres for their much delayed ‘Jagga Jasoos’ and hence ‘Haseena: The Queen of Mumbai’ has not got enough distribution share or the required number of screens. “We’d rather brave Anees Bazmee’s comedy than ‘Jagga Jasoos’. With ‘Jagga Jasoos’ on July 14, we were not getting proper theatres, screens and timings. Now, having shifted by two weeks, we at least stand a fair chance,” a source revealed to Bollywoodhugama.
