Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ has received a positive response on the internet, with its promotional videos like trailers and teasers fetching views in millions. As the film hits the screens today, trade buzz suggests that the social drama may earn anywhere between Rs 5 and 7 crore. ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ is releasing on a non-holiday weekend on approximately 2,200 to 2,500 screens across the country. Since Shahid enjoys massive following in metro cities, maximum contribution is expected from the city theatres. Predictions are that ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ will rake in Rs 30 crore by the first weekend of its release. Directed by Shree Narayan Singh of ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ fame, ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ is reportedly made on a budget of Rs 40 crore.

There was a time when ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ faced extreme financial crunch, when KriArj Entertainment, the production house backing this Bollywood film, was unable to handle it anymore. Bhushan Kumar and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra finally came to the film’s rescue, pumped in the required money without compromising on its quality and salvaged the Shahid Kapoor-starrer film.

Shahid Kapoor was recently heard saying that he “loses all confidence before film’s release” but not so with ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’. He had even sacrificed his vacation to complete the Bollywood film on time and even giving it priority over his other work. All this hard work seems to have paid off and Shahid and the makers are expected to soon laugh their way to the bank once the box office collection figures of ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ are out in the open.
