Akshay Kumar talks of PadMan versus Padmavat clash

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s dream film ‘Padmavat’ has finally got a release date but not without a struggle at the box office. The clash will be between ‘PadMan’ and ‘Padmavat’, on January 25, and here’s what Akshay Kumar has to say, “There is no competition. It is a big date and a long weekend. So both the films can release. Every film has the right to release whenever it wants to. I am happy for them.” Interestingly, moving out of the clash is Sidharth Malhotra and Manoj Bajpayee’s patriotic drama ‘Aiyaary’, which has shifted its release from the Republic Day to February 9.

The box office battle between ‘PadMan’ and ‘Padmavat’ has further intensified with a competition for the number of screens. A source informs bollywoodhungama.com, “If this is really true then we would have to re-structure the entire tentative screening schedule for Republic Day. Ideally, ‘Padmavat’ would get all the 5,000-odd screens. But now it will get approximately 2,500 screens. ‘PadMan’, which would have otherwise got most of the screens (if it was to release solo), has now to be content with only 2,500 screens.”

The report further states that the team of ‘PadMan’ has called for an emergency meeting with ‘Padmavat’ makers to sort out the matter. “We will try to reason with them and make them understand why it’s insane to pitch the two films on the same Friday. If they don’t listen, we’ll still go ahead with our release on January 25,” states the source from the team of ‘PadMan’.
