Celebrity Sanjay Leela Bhansali was attacked on the sets of ‘Padmavati’ in Jaipur today evening. Angry mob, allegedly from the Shri Rajput Karni Sena – a Rajput caste organisation – barged on the sets of ‘Padmavati’ in Jaipur and started landing blows on director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The celebrated Bollywood filmmaker’s team tried to protect him from the fuming crowds during the shooting of the period film but some people managed to hit Sanjay Leela Bhansali despite the security. Bhansali was soon taken to a safe place by his team members present on the sets of ‘Padmavati’. Not stopping after hitting Bhansali, the agitated protestors vandalised the sets, breaking filmmaking equipment. Initial reports coming out from Ground Zero state that the security personnel present on the sets of ‘Padmavati’ in Jaipur had to fire in the air to stop the violence and keep Bhansali safe.

So why did the angry mob thrash Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the sets of ‘Padmavati’ in Jaipur, where he was shooting with many celebs and cinema stars? The row apparently is over the love sequence between Rani Padmavati and king Alauddin Khilji as depicted in the Bollywood movie. The protestors allege that this never took place in history, instead queen Padmavati eventually committed ‘Jauhar’ or ‘sati’ (self-immolation). In the Bollywood film ‘Padmavati’, these characters are played by alleged real life lovers Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali was to begin an extensive shoot in Jaipur before the ruckus on the sets and getting hit by a few men. But it seems like all plans have been cut short and Bhansali has put the shoot of ‘Padmavati’ on hold for the time being!
