Udta Punjab passed with ‘A’ certificate and 13 cuts after controversy

Revising committee of the Censor Board has awarded ‘Udta Punjab’ 13 cuts and ‘A’ certification, apart from allowing Anurag Kashyap to keep the title as is. The case is pending at the Bombay High Court challenging CBFC’s earlier decision

The release of ‘Udta Punjab’ is currently discussed as the biggest issue in Bollywood, with Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) playing a spoilsport. Pahlaj Nihalani led CBFC has cleared the film with an Adult certificate and proposed 13 cuts. This Shahid Kapoor starrer Bollywood movie is produced by Anurag Kashyap and Ekta Kapoor, making it the film with many big celebs and cinema stars.

Commenting on the issue, Rohit Shetty says, “As a director and a producer, I know that a lot of money is being spent and the Bollywood film involves a lot of hard work. I know what the team which has made the movie and the people who have financially backed it must be going through. It has always been happening with us and now the problem here is that we as an industry need to come together. It will take time. People have gradually started raising their voices and being heard.”

Full of celebs and cinema world stars, namely Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh starrer controversial Bollywood movie ‘Udta Punjab’ is to release this Friday. The film highlights the drug menace in the state of Punjab and has a lot of expletives used, which the Censor Board suggested be deleted, including Punjab from its title. ‘Udta Punjab’ is directed by Abhishek Chaubey and produced jointly by Phantom Films and Balaji Motion Pictures.

Anurag Kashyap put up a brave fight against Pahlaj Nihalani and the Censor Board, challenging their decision to drop the word Punjab from ‘Udta Punjab’ and awarding it 89 cuts. The movie was then passed on to the revising committee which suggested the title remain as is and finally awarded the Bollywood film 13 cuts. While many celebs and cinema world people have come out in support of the Bollywood film and its makers Anurag Kashyap and Ekta Kapoor, the whole controversy regarding ‘Udta Punjab’ has landed at the doors of the Bombay High Court. The decision is awaited.
