Sushant Singh Rajput’s reply on Raabta copyright controversy!
Sushant Singh Rajput defends the makers and his film ‘Raabta’, which is mired in controversy with plagiarism charges slapped on them by the makers of ‘Magadheera’, a South film
Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon’s reincarnation love story, ‘Raabta’, has been reportedly taken to court by the makers of Telugu film ‘Magadheera’, on the charges of plagiarism of their plotline. Apparently, a Hyderabad court has issued a notice to the makers of ‘Raabta’ and it will be decided on June 1 whether this Bollywood film will be allowed to hit the screens on June 9 or not. Reacting to the legal controversy and copyright infringement claims, Sushant says, “The most basic book about screenplay states that there are eight different kinds of stories that you can tell. So every film made will be one from those eight stories only! Besides, those who have a problem must first watch our film and check for the similarity.” Film’s lead actress Kriti Sanon too defensively adds, “I have seen the film which is being talked about and I have obviously read the ‘Raabta’ script. It is nowhere similar. The characters and the narrative, everything from the scratch is different.” It is being alleged that the makers of ‘Magadheera’ feel that the past-life love drama of ‘Raabta’ is copied from their story.
‘Magadheera’ was directed by SS Rajamouli and starred Ram Charan and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead roles. The Southern film released in 2009. ‘Raabta’ is directed by Dinesh Vijan and has a special song featuring celeb and cinema’s leggy lass Deepika Padukone. Since the team wrapped up ‘Raabta’ in February 2017, Sushant and Kriti have been enthusiastically promoting the film across the length and breadth of the country, attending several events. The ‘Raabta’ team seems confident of its release and is gearing up to showcase the reincarnation drama, plagiarism charges not dampening their spirit.
Interestingly, producer Madhu Mantena owns the rights to remake ‘Magadheera’ in Bollywood and was considering Shahid Kapoor for the lead role before ‘Raabta’ hit the marquee and was mired with the copyright controversy.
