Saif Ali Khan-starrer ‘Kaalakaandi’ created a stir when its quirky teaser was showcased in July this year. The film was aiming to release in September. But neither the trailer, nor the film made it to the big screen, with rumours of ‘Kaalakaandi’ being shifted to 2018. Now the buzz suggests that ‘Kaalakaandi’ may not release on the big screen at all! “Talks are on with Netflix. They feel that they will recover their money only if the film releases on the digital platform because there aren’t any takers in the market for it otherwise. ‘Kaalakaandi’ is an extremely niche film so the team is worried. Saif is having disagreement with the producers on the same. He wants the film to release in theatres, obviously,” a source was quoted as saying in DNA. And while it looks like Saif Ali Khan is keen to have the film released in theatres instead of on Netflix, with no buyers, he may have to rely on the video-content website. ‘Kaalakaandi’ will mark the directorial debut of ‘Delhi Belly’ writer Akshat Verma. The film is a comic dark thriller set in Mumbai and explores lives of six urban and ambitious characters from different worlds.
Saif Ali Khan doesn’t seem to have had a great 2017. He began the year with a flop like ‘Rangoon’, working his way to another disaster, ‘Chef’. With the undecided fate of ‘Kaalakaandi’, Saif has all hopes pinned on ‘Baazaar’ where he plays a rags-to-riches businessman who rules Mumbai’s share market.
