Richa Chadha, who brings home eco-friendly Ganesha idol during the Ganpati festival, preaches about environmental damage during the celebrations. The actress says, “Environment should not be damaged because of a festival. During Ganpati, the entire city comes to a standstill. There is traffic, noise pollution, people burst crackers, and the worst of all, I feel, is water pollution. The idols made from Plaster of Paris (POP) and other materials don’t dissolve in water. I stay next to the beach and the day after ‘visarjan’ (immersion), parts of the Ganpati idols are scattered on the beach, along with the litter, which makes me feel very bad. Besides, the toxics used in the making of the idols also damage our marine life.” The actress urged everyone to celebrate the Ganesh Festival by welcoming home eco-friendly idols of the God.
