Raveena Tandon’s upcoming Bollywood movie ‘Maatr’ has faced some strong objection from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with regards to a few strong scenes in the film. ‘Maatr’ is based on the subject of fight against rape. Reacting to the CBFC’s decision, the film’s leading lady Raveena Tandon says, “As far as I know, the CBFC had objection against the strong language used in the film since we have tried to portray the reality. We believe that till the time we don’t present the truth to the audience, they will remain indifferent to such problems. Censor Board is bound by certain laws which were made 70 years ago. Hence it is time for a change. We speak about progressive India but our laws need amendment. If a film gets an ‘A’ certificate then why is the movie always dumped with so many cuts? These archaic laws need to be changed.” Almost echoing similar sentiments, filmmaker Amol Palekar has knocked the doors of the Supreme Court urging a change in the pre-censorship law.
