Ranveer Singh’s tryst with cricket; failed the test!
Ranveer Singh has tried his hand at playing cricket through professional coaching but failed the test. Now he will play Kapil Dev in the film titled ‘83’, based on the Indian cricket team’s 1983 World Cup victory
Ranveer Singh is all set to play cricketing legend Kapil Dev on the silver screen in the film titled ‘83’, which will immortalise the iconic win of Indian cricket team as it lifted the World Cup in 1983. Speaking about the ambitious project, Ranveer says, “It is my honour and privilege to be a part of this film. It is one of the greatest stories of our country.” Interestingly, very few would know that Ranveer had tried his hand at playing cricket when he decided to join Mohinder Amarnath Academy at Khar Gymkhana in Mumbai. But Mohinder Amarnath, aka Jimmy, failed Ranveer Singh in the entrance test itself, thus leading to a glorious acting career for him.
Directed by Kabir Khan, Ranveer Singh-starrer ‘83’ will be shot at real locations and will go on the floors in early 2018. While Ranveer will play Kapil Dev, the rest of the squad of 1983 World Cup winning team is yet to be finalised. At a grand event to announce the film, legendary cricketers like Kapil Dev, Mohinder Amarnath, Dilip Vengsarkar, Roger Binny, SS Madanlal, Kirti Azad, Sandeep Patil, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Yashpal Sharma and Sunil Valson were invited to share the stage with Ranveer Singh.
