Producer Ranbir Kapoor comments on compensating distributors
Producer and actor of ‘Jagga Jasoos’, Ranbir Kapoor says that compensating distributors is an age old practice, from his grandfather Raj Kapoor’s time, and he too would do the same if his film flops
Salman Khan has decided to compensate distributors for the losses they have incurred for his last release, ‘Tubelight’, which tanked at the Box Office. Ranbir Kapoor, who turned producer with ‘Jagga Jasoos’, shares a similar view for loss-making distributors. “My grandfather was a producer since 1950s and I have been hearing about this practice since my grandfather’s time. When his film ‘Mera Naam Joker’ didn’t work and distributors faced heavy losses, He decided to give them a larger share when ‘Bobby’ went on to be a hit. So this practice has been going on since years and it is a healthy exercise. It is the old style of making films, where everybody should make money and not just the producer. Personally, if distributors incurred losses and I was making money out of it, I would definitely compensate them. But it differs from person to person and film to film,” explains Ranbir. As ‘Jagga Jasoos’ gears up for a release this Friday, the actor is hoping for a blockbuster. At the same time, Ranbir is also ready to compensate the distributors if at all ‘Jagga Jasoos’ fails at the Box Office. They can heave a sigh of relief.
