While in real life Salman Khan did his bit to free Sarabjit Singh from Pakistan prison, in the reel life biopic the Bollywood actor’s presence has been chopped off. Director Omung Kumar reasons, “‘Sarbjit’ has a lot of important incidents that had to be included. Since we had to showcase the entire 23 years of his journey in two hours, we could not include a few of them. Hence this part (Salman Khan’s) is not included in the film.” It is not unknown that the more obvious reason could be the presence of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who plays the role of Sarabjit Singh’s sister Dalbir Kaur in the movie. Ash and Sallu were in a relationship many moons ago, the relationship which went sour at a later stage.

While he may have upset Salman Khan fans, Omung Kumar is positive that he can at least stir an emotional sentiment with ‘Sarbjit’ across the border. Omung Kumar says, “There is nothing objectionable in this movie. We will send the film to Pakistan and ask for their opinion. We want everyone around the world to see it because what has happened should not happen again.” Adding to the director’s vision, Randeep Hooda, who plays Sarabjit Singh on celluloid, says, “There is no Pakistan bashing as such in the film. There were certain atrocities he was subjected to. I am not sure whether that happens over here as well. It is a situation where a normal person is caught in the political ups and downs between the two countries.”
