Well known poet, Nida Fazli passed away today at the age of 78, following a heart attack. Born Muqtida Hasan Nida Fazli, this lyricist who has many Bollywood credits to his name, hailed from a family of Kashmiri Pandits.
Nida Fazli has to his credit many popular songs like ‘Hosh Walon Ko Khabar Kya’ from ‘Sarfarosh’ (1999) and ‘Aa Bhi Ja’ from ‘Sur’ (2002). Nida Fazli was a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi award in 1998 and was also honoured with Padma Shri in 2013 by the Government of India. In 1994 Nida Fazli joined forces with late ghazal singer Jagjit Singh and together they launched an album, ‘Insight’. Nida Fazli and Jagjit Singh received a lot of appreciation for their work of art. Ironically, today, February 8, is Jagjit Singh’s birthday.
Remembering the late poet, Mahesh Bhatt dedicated a couplet to him:
“Ghar se masjid hai bahut dur chalo yu kar lein,
Kisi rote hue bachche ko hansaaya jaaye…
Nida Fazli Saab, Khuda Hafiz!”
