Comedian Kiku Sharda, who was arrested following a complaint from a follower of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh for dressing up like the Sacha Dera Sauda chief and mimicking him is released and back to shooting. “I am grateful to the media and the social media and everyone who supported me in this. I had apologised the very next day on Twitter as a section of people had been upset,” says a still visibly shaken Kiku. “It is never my desire to hurt anyone, I want everybody to enjoy it. It is my intention to get smiles on people’s faces,” adds the comedian, who became famous with the character of Palak in primetime TV show ‘Comedy Nights Witih Kapil’.
Several members from the Cine & TV Artistes Association (CINTAA) too have come out in support of the comedian. CINTAA joint secretary, Amit Behl extended support to the actor as artistes like Ashutosh Rana, Renuka Shahane, Manoj and Seema Pahwa and Vrajesh Hirjee joined in apart from other Bollywood and TV celebs.
Kiku Sharda’s controversial performance was aired on one of the channels of Zee TV, and the actor expected a lot of support from them. “Initially I was taken aback. I found myself to be all alone in this, and that is what I am sad about. I have done so many shows, so I know that editing is an option. But here is something which is telecast with a lot of confidence. So the onus lies with the channel,” says Kiku.
Kiku is now back to shoot for his debut film but expresses displeasure the way the whole incident was handled. “As an actor, I do my bit when I am told that this is the script. There are a lot of people involved in making a product what it is. I executed something that I was given, so why is the entire burden on me? It should be shared with everyone who came up with the idea of making this product,” concludes Kiku.
