Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt-starrer ‘Gully Boy’ has been selected as India’s official entry to the 92nd Academy Awards, popularly known as the Oscars. Commonly put, ‘Gully Boy’ has been nominated for Oscar Awards 2020. The story of the film talks about an underdog, whose bringing up has been in the slums in Dharavi, Mumbai, and how he goes on to become a famous rapper along with his friend who is already in this field. Ranveer plays Murad Ahmed, aka, Gully Boy whereas Alia portrays the character of Safeena Firdausi. ‘Gully Boy’ is directed by Zoya Akhtar. Ranveer, on the occasion, shared the team’s common enthusiasm, saying, “We are so thrilled that ‘Gully Boy’ has been selected as India’s official entry to the 92nd Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category.” The story is written by Reema Kagti jointly with Zoya. ‘Gully Boy’ was released on February 14, 2019 in India.

Many questioned the government’s decision to send ‘Gully Boy’ to the Oscars. But the lead actor, Ranveer, thanked the film body for their choice and also the people associated with the flick. “Thank you to the Film Federation of India, Aparna Sen, Supran Sen, Anindya Dasgupta, members of the jury,” he said. As any film is possible only with the hard work of the entire gamut of people, Ranveer didn’t forget to mention them either, “A big congratulations to our spectacular cast and crew.” ‘Gully Boy’ also stars Kalki Koechlin, Vijay Raaz as Ranveer’s father and Siddhant Chaturvedi, who plays the lead actor’s friend Shrikant Bhosle or MC Sher, as he is known. The Bollywood movie is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Zoya Akhtar, Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby Productions at an approximate cost of Rs 84 crore. Worldwide ‘Gully Boy’ collected Rs 238.16 crore at the box office.

While Bollywood is rejoicing and congratulations are in order for Zoya Akhtar, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt and the team, for now, ‘Gully Boy’ has only been selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars. It still has a long way to go to be actually crowned The Best International Feature Film in the category. The Academy Awards follows a strict guideline before awarding an Oscar to any film or celebrity in their respective class. The Oscar award ceremony is scheduled to go live on the 9th February 2020. Hence the cast and crew of ‘Gully Boy’, including Zoya, Ranveer and Alia, will have to wait long, till the time the Bollywood film passes through all the stages in the coming months at the Oscars.
