When the National Awards were announced earlier this year, Akshay Kumar bagged the Best Actor award for his performance in ‘Rustom’. Many questioned whether this was indeed the best performance of the year or were there other deserving candidates. Reacting to the controversy, a flustered Akshay Kumar says, “I have been seeing since the past 25 years, whenever anyone wins an award there is a debate on it. So it is nothing new for me. Every time someone or the other starts a controversy saying this person shouldn’t win the award and that person is more deserving. I have received National Award after 26 years in the industry. If you want then take it away from me!” Names like Aamir Khan and Manoj Bajpayee had cropped up as better deserving actors for their respective works but Akshay Kumar bagged the National Award for ‘Rustom’, which fuelled the fire.
