Kapil Sharma’s second Bollywood outing, ‘Firangi’, has not struck a chord with the audiences. ‘Firangi’ started off on a poor note with just Rs 2.10 crore as its opening day collection and another Rs 2 crore on Saturday at the box office. The Kapil Sharma-produced and starrer was reportedly made on a big budget of Rs 45 crore and going by the box office collections, ‘Firangi’ could well prove to be a huge loss-making project for the stand-up comedian! While the film was surrounded by negative publicity, thanks to Kapil’s much talked about on-flight brawl with Sunil Grover, critics too bashed ‘Firangi’ left, right and centre, crushing Kapil’s acting aspirations.
The stand-up comedian made it big on the small screen with almost every Bollywood star vying to make an appearance on ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’. Kapil’s debut Bollywood film, ‘Kis Kis Ko Pyaar Karoon’ (2015), directed by Abbas-Mustan and made on a budget of Rs 8.5 crore, spelled success by raking in Rs 40 crore at the ticket windows. It remains to be seen if ‘Firangi’ can create a similar spectacle for Kapil Sharma or fails by the end of the time it is taken down from theatres. In the meantime, reports suggest that Kapil Sharma will be back with his TV show, minus Sunil Grover.
