Exclusive: Sarabhai V/S Sarabhai a web series? Rupali Ganguly aka Monisha Sarabhai reveals some -

Much water has flown under the bridge since ‘Sarabhai V/S Sarabhai’ drew the curtains and the world has moved ahead. Web series and daily soaps are the norm in this Jet Age. So are the makers of ‘Sarabhai V/S Sarabhai’ contemplating hitting the Internet big time in this digitised era? Rupali Ganguly, who is rather known as Monisha Sarabhai even in real life after playing the said character in ‘Sarabhai V/S Sarabhai’, says, “It is too early to talk about things before they are finalised. Whether the show will be a web series or will be given to a channel is the producers’ call. It is difficult for me to comment on that.”

Producer Jamnadas Majethia (JD) is gearing up with another season of ‘Sarabhai V/S Sarabhai’. And his Twitter account stands testimony to it. So what will it be all about? Rupali says, “Just as I said, I still maintain that it is too premature to speak about it right now. We haven’t even started shooting. Our Sarabhai family keeps meeting and we wanted to do something since the time it shut down,” without divulging much about the second season of the TV show. ‘Sarabhai V/S Sarabhai’ was aired on Star One from 2004 to 2006 and completed around 70 episodes before coming to an end in its infancy, compared to today’s time.

The comedy TV show was perhaps ahead of its time, and hence couldn’t garner as many eyeballs as its producers and the channel would have wanted it to. Since then, the entire team of ‘Sarabhai V/S Sarabhai’ was toying with the idea to bring the even funnier season to their fans. Fortunately, after its multiple rerun, the first season came into the notice of the audiences, and their characters became a household name. “In fact, I respond to Monisha more than Rupali at times,” says Monisha, errr… Rupali Ganguly, excitedly, continuing, “During my last outing, fans were shouting ‘Monisha, Monisha’, my character from ‘Sarabhai’. So we have been talking about coming back since its shut down.”

Before we could let her hang up, we coaxed her a bit to spill the beans and all Rupali Ganguly says is, “It is a long process. Let the episodes be written first. Let Aatish, JD bhai and all of us sit together and then we will take a call on what can be done. But ‘Sarabhai’ will happen for sure,” before signing off.

Starring Satish Shah, Ratna Pathak Shah, Sumeet Raghavan, Rajesh Kumar, Deven Bhojani, Arvind Vaidya and Rita Bhaduri apart from Rupali Ganguly, the first season of TV show ‘Sarabhai V/S Sarabhai’ was directed by Deven Bhojani and produced by Jamnadas Majethia and Aatish Kapadia. Will there be a web series this time around? Time will tell.
