Dilip Kumar admitted to Lilavati Hospital, complains of respiratory problems

After being under observation by the doctors for 48 hours, the Bollywood thespian may be shifted to the hospital ICU if condition worsens

Veteran Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar has been admitted to Lilavati Hospital in suburban Mumbai after he complained of respiratory issues. The 93 year-old actor was brought to the hospital at around 2:00 AM today after his health worsened.

A doctor from the hospital told news agency ANI that Dilip Kumar had fever and had also vomited a few times. Dilip Kumar’s chest has caught infection and he has been diagnosed with pneumonia, state reports. Doctors are keeping a close watch on the actor’s heath due to his age. Only after 48 hours will it be decided whether there is a need to shift him to the ICU or not.

Earlier in 2013, Dilip Kumar had been admitted to the hospital after he complained of uneasiness. The actor had suffered a heart attack back then. After recuperating in the ICU for almost 10 days, the veteran Bollywood thespian was discharged.

Dilip Kumar, in his career spanning six decades, has given some memorable Bollywood hits like ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ and ‘Devdas’. The celebrity of the cinema world earned the tag of ‘Tragedy King’ in Bollywood after playing the ill-fated lover in films like ‘Mela’ and ‘Babul’.

Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan have many times said that they look up to Dilip Kumar as the epitome of acting in the present B-Town era.

Dilip Kumar, respectfully known as Dilip Saab by the celebs and cinema world, was honoured with a Padma Bhushan in 1991, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 and most recently with Padma Vibhushan, in 2015.
