Comedian Kiku Sharda arrested, and it’s not a joke

Famous comedian Kiku Sharda, known for his antics in ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’ is arrested. Kiku is arrested on the complaint lodged by the disciples of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in Haryana. It is said that the arrest is made for mimicking Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on December 12 on a TV show.

The Haryana police arrested the actor from Mumbai. After producing him in local court, Kiku has been remanded to 14-day judicial custody. Popular for playing the character of Palak on ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’, Kiku Sharda spoke about the controversy, saying, “I am an artiste, I am given a script and clothes for what I have to perform. So whatever was given to me, I did it as a duty of being an artiste. I was not aware that it would hurt the religious sentiments of people. It has happened mistakenly. I have apologised for it before and I apologise again. I don’t want my work to hurt anyone in any form,” before being arrested. On December 28, Kiku had apologised for his act on micro-blogging site, Twitter as well.

While the entertainment industry is in shock and awe over Kiku’s arrest for mimicking the spiritual leader, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is yet to speak over the issue which is now snowballed into a huge controversy.

Who is Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh?
Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who likes himself to be called as Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singhji Insan, is an Indian spiritual leader and the head of socio-spiritual body Dera Sacha Sauda. The leader has lakhs of followers, north of India being their main bastion. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh debuted in Bollywood in February last year with ‘MSG: The Messenger’, following up with a sequel in October which was titled ‘MSG-2: The Messenger’. He donned multiple hats apart from being an actor in both the films.
