Alia Bhatt will finally be directed by her filmmaker-father Mahesh Bhatt in a sequel to his 1991 hit ‘Sadak’. Alia announced the same on Mahesh Bhatt’s 70th birthday. The film is titled ‘Sadak 2’ and will feature the original cast of Sanjay Dutt, Pooja Bhatt, Alia and Aditya Roy Kapur. Tagging her father Mahesh Bhatt, an elated Alia shared, “You are directing me! ‘Sadak 2’ is a dream come true. What I thought will never be possible, you have made it possible. Thank you, daddy, from the bottom of my heart, soul and bones. This will be a journey of discovery… of life, movies, feeling and most of all… of a father and daughter. I love you my not-so-old man!”. With Mahesh Bhatt calling the shots, ‘Sadak 2’ is scheduled to release on March 25, 2020, a good one-and-a-half years away from now.

Since Sanjay Dutt is roped in again to play the lead in ‘Sadak 2’, Alia Bhatt will portray the character of his daughter. Interestingly, last year, the actress had refused to play Sanjay Dutt’s daughter in his comeback film ‘Bhoomi’, the role which later went to Aditi Rao Hydari.

Apparently, in December 2017, Alia Bhatt had no time to spare to shoot for ‘Sadak 2’. Mahesh Bhatt was contemplating the sequel to ‘Sadak’ with daughter since long, but Alia was busy with other projects like ‘Gully Boy’ with Ranveer Singh and ‘Brahmastra’ with Ranbir Kapoor. Post these two movies, she was to work in a film with Varun Dhawan. With such a busy date diary, Alia had to push the home production project to the end of 2018 and Mahesh Bhatt couldn’t do much. News was also doing the rounds that Bhatt’s elder daughter, Pooja Bhatt, might direct Alia Bhatt in ‘Sadak 2’, but Mahesh Bhatt’s name has now cropped up again as the director.
