Tannishtha Chatterjee made an appearance on ‘Comedy Nights Bachao Taaza’ along with her ‘Parched’ co-star Radhika Apte and director Leena Yadav to promote their film. The actress was informed that the show’s concept was that of a roast. However, by the end of the second segment, Tannishtha Chatterjee walked out of ‘Comedy Nights Bachao Taaza’. “I soon realised that the only quality they found worth roasting about in me was my skin tone. I could not believe I was sitting in a nationally televised comedy show in 2016 in Mumbai amid such regressive (I can’t call it humour), and blatantly racist content. Though I was feeling suffocated, I decided to give it another chance, and sat through another equally offensive segment,” wrote Tannishtha in an open letter on her Facebook account. The actress was asked if she was a fan of blackberries and how many blackberries she ate as a kid.
Apology follows:
Colors channel, on which ‘Comedy Nights Bachao Taaza’ is aired, has now tendered an apology in a long letter to Tannishtha. To start the lengthy letter, the channel speaks about “creating content that is meaningful and addresses pertinent social issues”, citing example of its various shows. At the end of the letter, Colors has finally said sorry to Tannishtha Chatterjee with, “Please accept our apologies for any hurt that was unwittingly caused.” Celebs & Cinema reproduces both Tannishtha Chatterjee and Colors channel’s versions for its readers.
In the meantime, many Twitterati did not take the fight between Tannishtha Chatterjee and Colors into their stride. Tannishta Chatterjee’s fans and other users trolled Colors’ show ‘Comedy Nights Bachao Taaza’ on the micro-blogging site, demanding to take the TV show off-air.
