Both the Bollywood beauties, Sonam Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are the faces of a cosmetic giant, but for different products. While things may be well between the two, the deal we are talking about might change their equation forever.
If rumours are to be believed then Sonam Kapoor has been brought on board as the brand ambassador for Kalyan Jewellers. For several years now, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been the face of this jewellery brand and has even inaugurated several of their showrooms across the country. In fact, knowing their celeb status, the jewellers have roped in almost the entire Bachchan clan to appear in their advertisements apart from being its brand ambassadors.
However, Sonam Kapoor’s youth appeal, stylish persona and the recent popularity of her films, including ‘Neerja’, may have gotten her the deal. Ironically, Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan continue to be the face of this brand from the Bachchan family, while the Bachchan ‘bahu’ may have just lost the deal.
For those who may not be in the know, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor were at loggerheads way back in 2009. The beauty queen allegedly was not very happy with the idea of walking the red carpet with a relatively then newbie Sonam Kapoor, at the Cannes Film Festival, since both were representing the same cosmetic brand L’Oréal. Eventually, Sonam missed her opportunity at the Cannes, referring to Aishwarya as an ‘aunty’. That was the time when the news of Sonam Kapoor replacing Aishwarya Rai as the face of the cosmetic brand in India had hit the marquee. This had miffed Ash to a great extent.
Today, Sonam is a star at the Cannes Film Festival and is also making it big in the endorsement space.
