Amitabh Bachchan narrowly escaped the fire at the Make In India event as he was just leaving the venue when the incident occurred. The actor said, “I had my performance at the Make In India, just finished and had got off the stage and sat in the car to leave when it happened… a providential escape… but no casualties… all safe.”
Aamir Khan, who has not been in the good books of the government lately, also made an appearance at the Maharashtra Night event, cultural part of the larger Make In India programme. He was all praise for the disaster management team. “The fire during the live show at Chowpatty was most unfortunate but the crisis was very well handled by the Mumbai police, fire department and the Maharashtra Government. The evacuation was carried out smoothly resulting in no casualties and no panic. The CM stayed till the end to oversee the evacuation. Excellent disaster management,” said Aamir.
Apparently, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis was present throughout the safety operations affecting more than 20,000 people. Vivek Oberoi, who was also present at the event, took to Twitter to shower praises on the CM and his team. He posted, “I salute the Mumbai police and the Mumbai fire brigade, real heroes who proved themselves tonight! Seamless evacuation of thousands! Hats off to Devendra Fadnavis and the team at CM’s office for overseeing the operations personally and ensuring everyone got to safety. We rarely appreciate what these braves do for us! I saw them running into the blaze, risking their lives and doing their duty to keep us safe!”
Despite the massive fire, all the programmes of the Make In India event are to continue as per schedule in the coming days and the CM has assured a comprehensive inquiry about the unfortunate incident.
