Shah Rukh Khan-starrer biopic on Indian astronaut Rakesh Sharma was to feature Kareena Kapoor Khan in the lead. Rumours are however rife that Bhumi Pednekar has been roped in to play a pivotal role in this Bollywood movie. It is not clear whether this biopic, tentatively titled ‘Salute’, will feature both the actresses or only Bhumi. The film will be helmed by Mahesh Mathai and is expected to go on the floors by the end of this year. Shah Rukh Khan, who replaced Aamir Khan in the biopic ‘Salute’, is currently busy with the post production work of ‘Zero’, his ambitious dwarf project with director Aanand L Rai.

Priyanka Chopra was to play Aamir Khan’s wife in the biopic before Bhumi, Kareena or even Shah Rukh had come into picture. Interestingly, it was not just the cast but even the name of the film was changed. ‘Salute’ was initially titled ‘Saare Jahan Se Achcha’. For those who want to know about astronaut Rakesh Sharma, he is the first Indian man to go to the outer space. All of just 35, Sharma spent 7 days, 21 hours and 40 minutes in space in April 1984. He has been conferred with the Ashoka Chakra and the Hero of Soviet Union. There’s no wonder then that the celebs and cinema stars – be it Bhumi or Shah Rukh – are queuing up to play important roles in this Bollywood biopic, saluting the man behind this, who achieved such an extraordinary feat.
