Karan Johar and Kangana Ranaut’s nepotism battle on ‘Koffee With Karan 5’ made its way to the recently concluded 18th International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA Awards) 2017. The who’s who of Bollywood made their way to New York for the gala ceremony, with Karan Johar, Saif Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan hosting the IIFA Awards 2017 weekend.
Taking a dig at actress Kangana Ranaut’s nepotism row, Saif Ali Khan told Varun Dhawan, “You are here because of your papa,” tongue-in-cheek, at the IIFA 2017. Reacting to it, Varun retorted, “And you’re here because of your mummy!” Adding sarcasm to all this jibe, Karan Johar added, “I am here because of my papa.” In unison the trio followed the gig with, “Nepotism rocks”. Taking things a step further, Varun went on to sing the song ‘Bole Chudiyan, Bole Kangana’ from Karan Johar’s film ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’. To this, Karan Johar replied, “Kangana naahi bole to achchha hai. Kangana bahut bolti hai [it is better if Kangana, (bangles in Hindi) doesn’t say anything. She talks a lot!].” Even if metaphorically, Kangana Ranaut’s name was openly used in the script for IIFA Awards, while the Bollywood actress was missing from the awards ceremony in New York, USA.
While Karan Johar, Varun Dhawan and Saif Ali Khan tried to make fun of the nepotism controversy at the IIFA 2017, Kangana Ranaut skipped the event as she is working on ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’. Not the one to keep quiet, all eyes are now trained on Kangana Ranaut, who is sure to come up with a strong reply to the jokes made on her expense.
