In a surprising move, Pakistani celebrity actress Veena Malik has filed for divorce from her Dubai based husband Asad Bashir Khan, ending three years of marriage. According to a report on dunyanews.tv Veena Malik filed for ‘khula’ (divorce procedure) on January 6, 2017 in Lahore family court. The court issued a decree in favour of Veena on January 31, 2017 as Asad failed to appear in the court to pursue the case. Thus, Veena Malik is now separated from Asad. Veena Malik will have to return 25 percent of the 25 thousand dirham she received as ‘mahr’ (dower, aka bride price) to her ex-husband Asad Khan and on getting the divorce, Veena will pay back 50 percent of the 50 thousand dirhams she got as ‘mahr’, the report stated. Veena Malik and Asad Bashir Khan were staying in Dubai.
Reports state that Veena Malik and Asad Bashir Khan were staying apart from the past three months, now she has filed for divorce. Asad wanted Veena to take care of their kids while the latter wanted to pursue her career in showbiz. Veena and Asad tied the knot on December 25, 2013 in a hush-hush marriage. She soon decided to opt out of the movies. In September 2014, Veena Malik Khan gave birth to a baby boy and named him Abram Khan (not to be confused with Shah Rukh Khan’s son AbRam Khan). Veena Malik gave birth to her second child, a baby girl, in Virginia, USA in September 2015 and named her Amal Asad Khan.
Surprisingly, Veena Malik’s official Twitter account has a different story to tell despite divorcing Asad Khan. The ex-Bollywood actress shared a post of her husband tagging her which said, “A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person. I love you my world,” on March 1. Just four days later, on March 5, Asad tweeted from the same (unverified) account, “Badly need everyone’s prayers. Today is the day of life and death for me! Feeling heartbroken.” Veena Malik and Asad Bashir Khan have still not come out in the open to comment on their divorce.
