While Anurag Kashyap has gone all guns blazing against the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for his next film ‘Udta Punjab’, co-producer Ekta Kapoor is keeping mum on the whole controversy surrounding the Bollywood film.

The high profile producer recently returned after a spiritual birthday celebration in Tirupati and revealed the reason for maintaining a silent stance on the controversy. Ekta Kapoor said, “Anurag and I have discussed that we should have only one spokesperson instead of having various people talk. Hence I have decided to have a ‘no comments’ stand to everything. There is a smart, carefully decided, soft and subtle approach to everything. I don’t want to comment and say something unnecessarily.” Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures is the co-producing ‘Udta Punjab’ along with Anurag Kashyap’s Phantom Films.

While it was reported that Ekta Kapoor does not support Anurag Kashyap’s fight against the CBFC, the filmmaker stood by his side strongly at the press conference held to discuss the controversy. For those joining late, CBFC and its chief Pahlaj Nihalani suggested 89 cuts in ‘Udta Punjab’ along with dropping Punjab from the title as well the movie. The Bollywood film was then passed on to the revising committee to have a look at it again. The revising committee allowed Punjab in the title but asked to remove any mention on the state from the film completely.

Many are looking at the controversial ‘Udta Punjab’ fight as a political tool as elections are due in the state of Punjab next year. Anurag Kashyap has urged some political parties to stay away in this battle with CBFC. Many celebs and cinema world stars are morally backing Anurag Kashyap, Ekta Kapoor and the rest of the cast and crew of ‘Udta Punjab’.
